Rallies, Riots, and Remonstrations
What Does the First Amendment Protect, and What Limits Are There for Citizens, Local Governments, and Law Enforcement?
FBA-NOVA proudly co-sponsors one of twelve CLEs planned for the Virginia State Bar's action-packed 80th Annual Meeting, held June 14-17, 2018, in Virginia Beach.
Description
With the Charlottesville rally as a backdrop, we will explore what kind of protests the first amendment protects, and where we draw the line between protecting free speech and protecting the safety of our citizenry. How do we balance the first amendment rights of the individual with the well-being of the public? What are the roles of the lawyer, the government and law enforcement? We look forward to a lively and thought provoking discussion on this dynamic topic.
1.5 hours of CLE credit approved (0.0 ethics hours).
Please remain for the presentation of the Clarence M. Dunnaville, Jr. Award, which will be presented to the Honorable Rupen R. Shah immediately following the CLE program.
