Second Annual FBA Kickball Tournament a Resounding Success

On October 1, 2017, FBA-NOVA hosted the Second Annual FBA v. EDVA Kickball Game. Joseph Hensley Park played host to what has developed into a classic rivalry between the EDVA team, coached by Judge Nachmanoff and Judge O’Grady, and the FBA team, coached by Judge Hilton and Judge Buchanan. As is tradition, Judge Brinkema welcomed the attendees and provided the opening roll to begin the first inning.

This year also saw the addition of Judge Ivan D. Davis as Home Plate Umpire, Federal Defender Geremy Kamens as 1st Base Umpire, and U.S. Attorney Dana Boente as 3rd Base Umpire. These officials and their respect for the Official Kickball Rules governing the United Sates and Guam allowed every play to be officiated flawlessly. Announcing the game was former FBA President Charles “Chip” Molster, whose kickball commentary received an Emmy in 2016.

On the field, dreams were made and shattered over the course of 9 innings. The FBA sought to defend their 2016 title, but were unable to withstand the sheer offensive power of the EDVA. The opening innings were a thing of beauty from the dugout commanded by the FBA’s Judge Hilton. Moving into the bottom of the 4th, history seemed to be repeating itself as the FBA established their lead. The EDVA had other plans. Judge Nachmanoff rallied his players and began the 5th with an offensive flurry that left the FBA in shambles. A total of six RBIs between the 7th and 8th innings assured the courthouse its first victory. Post-game barbecue from Rocklands followed what Judge Nachmanoff described as “a decisive and historic victory.”
